In recent history, one of the most notorious examples of government oppression is the Soviet Union whose leaders created systems that were supposed to keep information and ideas censored. In the novel Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury creates a similar world. As Bradburry shows, and as seen in the Soviet Union, it is almost impossible to keep everyone in ignorance indefinitely. One vaccination not just benefits the person taking vaccine but also the community as a whole. Therefore, purpose of immunization community is to help protect those who are not vaccinated. This concept is known as community immunity. Vaccination of one person helps in the prevention of disease to others in the society such as small babies, unvaccinated peoples, pregnant women, a person with the weak immune system such as those with asthma, cancer, etc (Carlin, 2013). Therefore, when a majority of the population in a community is immunized, it creates a positive environment from where there is little chance of infectious diseases to spread. Regarding successful vaccination, US occupies the top position. Only 3% of children in the US are unvaccinated. Another usefulness of vaccine is that it does not just save lives, but it saves peoples money too (Bijl et al., 2012).. This can be imagined by the cost involved in treating any disease. But if we judge properly, the cost of disease prevention is much small. So little money spent in immunizations saves people from enormous expenditure due to the diagnosis of illness and hospitalizations. Vaccines are not safe is also just a myth which has been spread by traditional people. Before the administration of any vaccine publicly, it is regularly checked for safety. The safety test is approved by Food and Drug Administration, and its efficacy is routinely monitored. There are published numerous studies which show that there is no significant safety concern related to adherence to immunization schedule and timing of dosage (Levy Levy, 2015). Therefore, all these counter arguments with valid points successfully prove that vaccination and immunization is a boon for humanity. So any person against vaccination should keep this in mind that not going for vaccination is a far greater risk to their health. Robert Frost There are probably three things that account for Robert Frost's poetry. In his poems, he uses familiar subjects, like nature, people doing everyday things and simple language to express his thought. His poems may be easy to read, but not necessarily easy to understand. Almost all of Frost's poems are hiding a secret message. He easily can say two things at the same time. For example, in "The Road Not Taken", Frost talks about being a traveler, but the hidden message is about decisions in life. In lines 19 and 20, he expresses that he did the right thing, by choosing to go down the path that made the difference. Also, in "Birches", lines 48-59, it shows that the poem is about being carefree. Frost wishes he could be like the boy swinging from the birch trees. The poem sets the picture of a boy swinging from the tree branches, but he really is talking about being carefree. He says that earth is the right place for love. He says that he doesn't know where he would like to go better, but he would like to go swinging from the birches. Another example of symbolic description comes from the poem, "Desert Places"; he talks about how he will not be scared of the desert places, but of the loneliness. He is scared of his own loneliness, his own desert places. Most of Frost's poems are about nature. All three of the mentioned poems are about nature. In "The Road Not Taken", he talks of the woods and paths to follow (line1). Also, in "Birches", he talks of the birch tree, and winter mornings (line 7). He also talks about rain and snow (line8-11). In "Desert Places", he talks of woods and snow covering the ground (line 1-5). He shows the relationship between nature and humans. As in "Tree at My Window", the beginning of the poem shows the intersection between humans and nature (lines 3-12). But the end suggests there are differences that separate them (lines 13-16). In "Birches", he talks of the trees and "sunny winter mornings" (line 7). He also talks of the sun's warmth, and how it melts the snow (line 10-12). The poem, "Desert Places", talks of snow falling into a field, and covering the weeds (line 1-4). It also talks about animals' lairs being smothered in the snow (line 5-6). Which is ironic considering that deserts are hot, and it does not snow there. Frost's simple, yet creative language is used in two ways. He can stir up your worst fears, or provoke a fantasy. The reader can put to terms our own fearful fantasy. In "Once by the Pacific", he uses a scheme of starting with a storm, but it turns out to be more than just a storm (line 1-5). It turns out to be mysterious, because something doesn't like the way the shore is backed by the cliff, or the way the continent backs the cliff (line 7-9). It even gets more mysterious in the lines that follow; it talks of dark intent (line 10). It said someone should prepare for rage, because more than ocean water will be broken (line12). Frost uses simple word to describe some complicated things. He takes the fears within himself and distributes them into the environment all around him. The words he uses are easier to understand than other poets' words are. Reading a poem by Frost is not as confusing as some poets, but trying to understand the hidden meanings are the most difficult. Psychologists of today are having problems diagnosing children with Bipolar Disorder because the symptoms are so different from the adult form of the disorder. In children Bipolar Disorder is called Child Onset Bipolar Disorder, known as COBPD (My Child 1). In children the cycling from highs to lows are very fast. Children will cycle between mania and depression many times a day. The episodes of mania or depression are short and rarely go on for more then a day at a time (Childhood 1). Children have longer periods of normal behavior between episodes then adults (Bipolar I Disorder 1). This rapid cycling is called ultra-ultra rapid cycling (My Child 1). Ultra-ultra rapid cycling is mostly associated with the low states in the morning, and then followed by the afternoon and evening with a high increase in energy (Frequently Asked Questions 1). Children usually have continuous mood changes that are mixes of mania and depression (Sutphen 1). In adult Bipolar Disorder, it is called Bipolar Affective Disorder, known as manic depressive illness (My Child 1). For adults the change from manic to depressed can take months. They often have periods of normal behavior in between their episodes of mania and depression (Bipolar 1). Bipolar Disorder is a biochemical imbalance that causes major mood changes from the highs of mania, to the very lows of depression (My Child 1). With one parent with the disorder they say the chances of each child having it is 15-30%, when both parents have the disorder the risk incr3eases to 50-75% of each child having it. In siblings and fraternal twins there is a 15- 25% percent, and in identical twins there is about a 70% chance of having the disorder. (About Early-Onset 4). In adolescents a loss or some other traumatic event might trigger an episode of either depression or mania. Later episodes of mania or depression may occur independently because of any other obvious trigger, such as stress, or the episode may worsen with any additional added stresses. Puberty is also a time of risk for children (About Early-Onset 3). The end of the cold war signified a new era of history that has changed the entire world. The face of Europe and Asia has changed dramatically. Vast changes have been felt socially, politically, and especially economically. Also the effect the cold war had on foreign policy was paramount. The effect of these changes is not only felt across the ocean but can be felt here in America. The goal of this paper is to define what the cold war specifically was, and reflect upon the various choices throughout the world as a result of the end of the cold war. The cold war was a period of time in which the United States was the world power in the western world. The Soviet Union (now Russia) was the leading power in the eastern world. While this would seem typical in any planet to have two world powers this case is extremely interesting because they had different governmental structures that were completely the opposite. On one hand there was America. We are a free market economy that is defined as being capitalist. Capitalism is a social and political system that means every person must fend for themselves. This is true economically and politically. Each individual has the ability to do whatever they choose with their life. They can make their own choices, and move wherever they want. While there are laws, the government has no say so over things that we take for granted everyday such as freedom of expression, religion, the right to bear arms, and even march down the street in support of the Ku Klux Klan if you so choose! The Soviet Union at that time was represented by a form of governmental control called communism. Communism was formed by a man named Karl Marx. The belief is that the government should control ev... ... It all comes down to choice. After the Cuban missile crisis ended both superpowers realized the severe consequences of nuclear war. They knew the implications involved, and religion was not the issue. The Russian government suppressed it to an extent. It was humanity. What good would it do to blow up the earth? Abraham Maslow’s Motivation and Personality Theory Essay

Maslow felt as though conditioning theories did not adequately capture the complexity of human behaviour. Maslow therefore looked to determine what it is humans seek in life. After much theorizing, he concluded that we search for things that will fulfil our needs for survival, as well as our emotional happiness and self-satisfaction. He then went on to introduce his concept of a hierarchy of needs in his 1943 paper titled â€Å"A Theory of Human Motivation†. Thus presenting the idea that human actions are directed towards goal achievement, believing that people have certain needs which must be met before they can go on to fulfil their potential. This could be through any given behaviour which could satisfy several functions at the same time; for instance, once you’ve acquired a hobby that you’re exceptionally good at, i.e. football, dance, etc. you begin to meet one’s needs for self-esteem and social interaction. Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs has often been represented in a hierarchical pyramid made up of five levels. The lowest levels of the pyramid represent the most basic needs, while the more complex needs are located at the top of the pyramid. The needs at the bottom of the pyramid are basic physical requirements including the need for food, water, sleep, and warmth. Once these lower-level needs have been met, people can move on to the next level of needs, which are for safety and security. As people progress up the pyramid, needs become increasingly psychological and social. Soon, the need for love, friendship, and intimacy become important. Further up the pyramid, the need for personal esteem and feelings of accomplishment take priority. Maslow emphasised the importance of self-actualization, which is a process of growing and developing as a person in order to achieve ones individual potential. Maslow believed that these needs are similar to instincts and play a major role in motivating behavior. Physiological, security, social, and esteem needs are deficiency needs, meaning that these needs arise due to deprivation. It is important to satisfy the lower-level needs in order to avoid unpleasant feelings or consequences. He termed the highest-level of the pyramid as growth needs. These are self-fulfillment needs and do not stem from a lack of something, but rather the desire to grow as a person. There are five different levels in Maslow’s hierarchy of needs: – Physiological Needs: These include the most basic needs that are vital to survival, such as the need for water, air, food, and sleep. These needs are the most basic and instinctive needs in the hierarchy because all needs become secondary until these physiological needs are met. – Security Needs: These include needs for safety and security. Security needs are important for survival, but they are not as demanding as the physiological needs. Safety needs are what we need to feel protected against external influences, i.e. the desire for steady employment, health care, safe neighborhoods, being secure and comfortable. – Social Needs: These include needs for belonging, love, and affection. These needs are considered to be less basic than physiological and security needs. Relationships such as friendships, romantic attachments, and families help fulfill this need for companionship and acceptance, as does the involvement in social, community, or religious groups. – Esteem Needs: After the first three needs have been satisfied, esteem needs becomes increasingly important. These include the need for things that reflect on self-esteem, personal worth, social recognition, and accomplishment . – Self-Actualization Needs: This is the highest level of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. Self-actualizing people are self-aware, concerned with personal growth, less concerned with the opinions of others, and interested in fulfilling their potential. Maslow’s theory is relatable in my work as a nanny. I am considered a primary caregiver for the children I care for along with their parents. It is my job to make sure all their basic needs such as food, water, sleep etc are met; these needs are called Physiological needs on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and are considered the most important. Once I, along with the parents meet these needs, we then continue on to the child’s need to feel safe and secure. The way in which we meet these needs is by providing consistent care to the child/children and for that care to  be given by the same few people i.e. parents, nanny, grandparents, and nursery. This allows the child/children to build a relationship with his/her primary caregivers whereby they trust them and feel safe with them. By being with the child for their first years, there is a bond that they develop through us meeting their needs and being a consistent figure in their life, they receive love and affection from those around them and this gives them a sense of belonging. As the child gets older I promote and encourage them to participate in activities that interest them such as dance or football, whereby they are building on their social skills by interacting with children of their age and who share similar interests. This is where we meet the social needs that Maslow states in his hierarchy. When I look at the fourth level in Maslow’s hierarchy of needs which he calls the ‘Esteem Needs’ I see this is based on how a child feels about themselves and also how they believe others see them. By meeting their social needs successfully the child/children will already have started to complete this level in their development because of the confidence and acceptance they have already achieved. This is where my encouragement and praise help the child/children in my care to recognise their achievements and this also helps to build their self-worth and self-esteem along with both mine and their parent’s recognition. All the previous levels lead up to us helping a child complete their final stage which Maslow calls ‘Self-Actualization’ however this level is where the child/young adult has to help themselves this could be achieved through a number of ways which could include continuing to further their education or going out into the world and finding a job but they will not be completely alone as they will have their parents and my support however by this stage I may no longer be with the family.
